Obituary of Montague Parker Churchill

It was Friday, January 21, 2005, with his loving son Mervyn at his side, that Monty chose to answer the call of the Lord and be reunited with departed family and friends, especially the love of his life, “The French Rose”, Rosette (nee Felten), who passed away in January 1975, after thirty years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his mother Leonora; father John; and brothers, Peter and Jack, all of Bristol, England. Monty was born in Bristol, England on May 29, 1920. Monty served in the British Army throughout the war, from 1938 to 1946, seeing action all the way from North Africa, through the Mediterranean to France where he met his Rosette, and on into Belgium and Germany. Despite the hardship of war, Monty’s Commanding Officer wrote of him, Monty “is a man of a very cheerful disposition”. Many who knew him would say that is a gross understatement. He was a mischievous soul, who loved people and the joy of life, a great promoter of laughter who always had a smile. Monty immigrated to Canada in 1989 and has lived among many friends in his seniors apartment since then. Not only did he give the gift of laughter, but his beautiful voice sang praises to the Lord from a young age and gave pleasure to family and friends until recent months. Monty’s memory will be cherished by his loving family: son Mervyn (Marilyn); grandchildren, Clark, Adam and Tara; their mothers, Patricia and Gloria; and great-grandsons, Kyle and Ryan, all of Calgary; and daughter Lydia (Gordon); and grandchildren, Lawson and Veritee, all of Charleston, SC. In Bristol, he leaves behind his dearest brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Betty, along with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews (children of the late Jack Churchill).
