Obituary of Frank L. Geider

Mr. Frank L. Geider, beloved husband of Inge of Calgary passed away on January 22, 2005 at the age of 76 years. Frank was born on March 22, 1928 in Heidelberg, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1951. After years as a successful Hotelier and Restaurateur, he opened Franzl’s Gasthaus in Calgary in 1965, which he continued to run for thirty years. He was strongly involved in Calgary’s restaurant scene as a Member and President of the Restaurant Association and Member of the Academy of Chefs. He also belonged to many wine and food societies most notably the ConfrÚrie de la Chaine des R¶tisseurs, in which he held the position of Bailli Regional for two years during his twenty-five year membership. Frank’s continuing support of his European heritage was expressed in his membership in the German, Austrian and Danish Clubs of Calgary. After many years of illness and suffering God has granted him rest and peace. Frank is survived by his loving wife Inge; daughter Michaela Young (Doug); grandson Darren; daughters, Sandra Hoenle (J_rgen Bahr), Elvira White (Robin); granddaughters, Kathryn, and Elisabeth; son Randy; sisters, Klõre Gimber, Margaret Weber (Klaus) both of Germany, and Trudi Conrad of San Francisco; his mother-in-law Katarina Kuhlwein, his brother-in-law Hans Kuhlwein (Trudy), and his sister-in-law Renata Gradishar (Johnny) as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many other relatives in Germany and Canada. Many thanks to everyone who helped Frank through his ordeal, including his family, dear generous friends, and during the last weeks, the Rockyview General Hospital Staff. Frank’s passion was the promotion of hospitality and celebration of good cuisine. Frank will be remembered for his love of life, family, and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lawrence Bagnall, Presider.
