John Landeen

Obituary of John Erick Landeen

On Friday, January 21, 2005 our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 87 years. John was born on September 4, 1917 in the Mizpah/Sunnynook area near Hanna, AB. He was the fourth child of Sarah Ethel and Erick Landeen. The Landeen family moved west of Didsbury and began farming in 1926. He joined the Manitoba Dragoons and fought in WW II in France until he was wounded in battle. Upon returning to Canada, he met the love of his life, Eva Marie Tetzlaff and they were married on June 23, 1945. John worked at the Colonel Belcher Hospital for the Department of Veterans Affairs until his retirement in 1978. Family always came first. He truly loved life, taking great pleasure in fishing, hiking, curling, golf, baseball, gardening, music, dancing, walking the dog, traveling, and a good game of crib, poker, chess or checkers. Family and friends were always made to feel welcome and comfortable in their home. John will be remembered for his gentle spirit, honesty and compassion for his fellow man. He always saw the good in others and during his journey made many lifelong friends. John will be dearly missed by his wife Eva; his son Jerry (Merlene) Landeen; his daughter Valerie (Rick) Anderson; his grandchildren, Fraser Landeen, Jeffrey Anderson, Jennifer (Reynoudt) Jalink; and one great-granddaughter Riley Jalink. He is also survived by his sisters, Sally Rowell, Beatrice Weidner, Ethel (Jack) Bowerman; his sister-in-law Kay Landeen; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and older brother Douglas. “To the world you may be one person but to us you were the world.” You will be missed beyond measure but never forgotten. God be with you.
