Obituary of Ralph Winston Scott

Ralph Scott, beloved husband of Elizabeth Scott of Calgary, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife on Friday, January 14, 2005 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 88 years. Ralph was born in Calgary in 1916, the city where he spent most of his childhood. Mechanically gifted, he joined the CPR Telegraph Service and then enlisted in the RCAF in 1939, first as an Aircraft Mechanic and later he received his commission as a Pilot. Much of his Air Force career was taken up with duties as a Flying Instructor in which he made life long friends from around the world. He went on to fly almost every type of aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Retiring from the RCAF in 1961, he returned to school to complete his education which had been interrupted by the Great Depression. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a B. Ed. degree, he taught Social Studies in several Junior High Schools in Calgary, most recently at Vincent Massey. Among his many interests during this time were support for the Debating and Photography clubs. After retiring from his second career in teaching, Ralph maintained his passion for all things related to aviation by volunteering at the Aerospace Museum in Calgary. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years Elizabeth; sons and daughters-in-law William and Andree Scott, and Wayne Scott and Myra Magee; and daughters, Lila McLean and Mary Scott. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; a brother Alex Scott of Denver; a sister Dorothy Ramsey of Dallas; and his friend from childhood George Bass of Calgary.
