Obituary of Caterina Carmela Arrotta

Caterina Carmela Arrotta (nee DeMare) passed away with her family at her side on January 12, 2005 at the age of 86 years. Caterina was born June 12, 1918 in Albi, Cantanzaro, Italy. In 1956, Caterina left Calabria with her three children to join the love of her life, Francesco, in Calgary for a better life for their family. Family was always first in Mama’s life. Every occasion was filled with love, laughter, joy and her beautiful smile that everyone loved and adored. Nonna Caterina will always be remembered for her loving heart. Many family and friends were always welcomed with a fresh cup of espresso and one of the best meals that they have ever eaten. Caterina is survived by her loving three children and their spouses, her son Pat; her daughters and sons-in-law, Rosa and Ted Donhuysen, and Melina and Chuck Cawthorn; as well as her brother Antonio DeMare. Nonna Bella is also survived by her four grandchildren and their spouses, Leesa and Jeff, Chucky, Devon and Tara, Nicole and Garry, and her four great-grandchildren, Sage, Addison, Colby, and Ethan; along with numerous family and friends in Canada and Italy. Caterina was predeceased by the love of her life Francesco Arrotta. “Rest in Peace our darling Mama, Nonna and friend.
