Obituary of Melvin Emery Carlson

On January 9, 2005, Mel Carlson P. Eng. passed away peacefully in the presence of his family, who loved him dearly, after a brief illness at the age of 77 years. Mel was born in Edmonton, AB on May 29, 1927. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he commenced and completed his working career in the Oil and Gas industry with various companies including Imperial Oil, TransCanada Pipelines, Canadian Arctic Gas and Foothills Pipelines. After twenty years in Toronto, Mel moved his family to Calgary where he completed his career and started his eventual retirement in 1990. Mel loved his family first and Cottage Country second. His favourite times were spent with his family and friends at cottages on Pigeon Lake in Alberta, Buckhorn Lake in Ontario and Windermere Lake in British Columbia. Mel led a full and healthy life and shared fifty-one years with his wife Betty with whom he raised four children; John, Terry, Sandy, and Pat whose lives along with Mel’s have been enriched by their partners, Suzanne, Mary Beth and her son PJ, Phil and Gary. His life and joy were also his seven grandchildren, Bryce, Katie, Joshua, Mackenzie, Georgia, Shanelle, and Jade. Mel is also survived by his older brother Vic. Mel was predeceased by his father Victor, his mother Hilda and his brothers Clare and Milt. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Friday, January 14, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Mel’s family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Calgary EMS and the Foothills Medical Centre ICU who provided wonderful care and compassionate support to Mel and his family.
