Obituary of Edward Smith
Edward Smith passed away in Calgary on January 8, 2005 at the age of 85 years. Beyond the struggle of this world he now rests in the arms of his Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Ed was born in Calgary on June 20, 1919 and resided in Calgary except for his RCAF service between 1939 and 1944. He worked thirty-three years with the CPR at Ogden Shops, and retired in 1980. Ed married Melva Chitwood on June 1, 1949 and they shared fifty-three wonderful years together, until Melva’s passing in 2002. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, camping, and traveling. Ed committed his life to Christ in 1935, and was actively involved at Northminster United Church, then First Baptist Church in Calgary since 1974. He leaves to mourn, two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Donna Smith and Greg and Lorraine Smith; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Ross Nichols; and six grandchildren, Christy, Shannon, Andy, Mark, Kevin and Julie. He is also survived by his sister Annie Walters and brother Mike Smith, both of Calgary. Ed will be greatly missed but we rejoice that he is now in heaven with his Lord and Saviour and his beloved wife Melva.
