Obituary of James Stewart Sutherland

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Stew Sutherland. Stew passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 7, 2005. Stew began his life on August 29, 1928 in Kelowna, BC. He trained as a Baker and enjoyed a wonderful life as a Baker in many cities and provinces – British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Whitehorse. While in Winnipeg, MB he met, fell in love with and married Emma. He became a step-father to Wally and Allan and had three children with Emma – Douglas, Marion and Katherine. In 1981 Stew, Emma and Katherine moved from Toronto, ON to Calgary. Here Stew worked as Bakery Manager for Safeway Canada. He retired in 1992 due to ill health, but that didn’t slow Stew down. He enjoyed camping, fishing and working in his workshop, creating lovely pieces of furniture. Besides his loving wife Emma, Stew leaves to mourn his son Douglas and Yasmin Sutherland; daughters, Marion and Ken Maurer and Katherine Sutherland; two step-sons, Wally and Lori Stewart, Allan and Linda Stewart; ten grandchildren, Alim and Adam Sutherland, Kevin James, Steven and Kayla-Rae Maurer, Jordan and Lindsay Stewart, and David, Robert and Dale Stewart; and three great-granddaughters, Cassie, Kyla and Skylar Stewart. Stew is also survived by two brothers, Douglas and Kenneth; two sisters, Jean and Marion; and sister-in-law Julie. He was predeceased by his father George, mother Marjorie, and brother Robert. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Tuesday, January 11 2005 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Ted Becker officiating.
