Obituary of Gwendolyn Helena King

Gwendolyn Helena King (nee Taylor), beloved wife of Charlie King of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2005. Helena was born in Belleoram, Fortune Bay, NF. She worked in St. John’s and was a companion to Lady Bennett. In 1943 she met and married Charlie King. She lived in St. John’s where her first son Charles Leslie was born, moved to North Sydney, NS where their daughter Catherine Virginia was born. Later she moved to Calgary where Stanley Vincent was born, then to Victoria, BC; and on to Carbon, AB where they lived for twenty years, to Drumheller for eighteen years, and returned to Calgary in 1990. Helena was an active member of the Anglican Church and ACW her entire life. Since moving to Calgary, she has belonged to the Confederation Seniors Club and the Confederation Old-Time Gliders as well as the Bowness Seniors. Helena is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Charles; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and George Fujita of Taber, AB; daughter-in-law Donna of Calgary; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her brother Vincent Taylor of St. John’s, NF; cousin Leah Taylor of Belleoram, Fortune Bay, NF; and by numerous nieces and nephews in Newfoundland and Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Miriah; two sisters; two sons, Charles and Vincent; granddaughter Paige; and two cousins, Huelin and Phyllis. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Barnabas’ Anglican Church (1407 – 7th Avenue N.W.) on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev’d Dr David A.
