Obituary of Nicola Vaccaro

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nicola Vaccaro on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the age of 87 years. Nicola was born in Bonefro C. Basso, Italy on March 21, 1917. Nicola farmed until 1937 then met and married Maria. He then entered the military and served for five years. When he returned from service Nicola and Maria continued farming and raising a family. They immigrated to Canada and settled in Calgary with daughter Rosina in 1967. Nicola worked for the University of Calgary for fifteen years and retired in 1982. He enjoyed working in his garden and took pride in making wine. Nicola was a generous man and always ensured his friends and family enjoyed the “fruits of the harvest” from his garden. Nicola leaves to mourn his son Luigi (Cristina); Marilena (Dan); Franca (John); Nick and Jordan of Calgary; his daughter Giuseppina (Michele); Domenico (Celeste); Nicolino (Sara) and Carmine of Italy; daughter Rosina (Doug); Tony and Kimberly of Calgary; six great-grandchildren, Rita, Michele, Miriam, Adamo, Valentina and Kole; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nicola was predeceased by his wife Maria in 1998. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Emanuel Buttigieg, Presider.
