Obituary of William Diog Cooke

It is with profound sadness that the family of William (Bill) Diog Cooke, beloved husband of Veronica of Calgary, announces his passing on December 28, 2004. Bill was born on October 2, 1923, in County Wicklow, Ireland. He met Veronica Salmon in the dance halls of Dublin and they were married in 1948. Bill and Veronica immigrated to Canada in 1953, where they lived in Jasper and Duncan, BC before settling in Calgary to raise their family. He worked in the construction industry for many years and was a popular Instructor with Calgary Continuing Education, teaching the basics of basement development to generations of would-be home handymen. Bill enjoyed life to its fullest and had a wonderful sense of humour. He was a devoted and loving grandfather and it is our children who have had the shortest time with him that have lost the most with the passing of this gentle soul. Besides his loving wife, Veronica, Bill will be fondly remembered by his four daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Michael Germain, Carol, Lee, and Veronica and Perry Mack; eight grandchildren, Garry, Aaron, Michal, Sean, Ashley, Madison, Rachel, and Natalie; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Gabriel. Bill will also be missed by many family members and friends in his native Ireland. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W.) on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Corcoran, Presider. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Bill Cooke, a tree will be planted at Nose Creek Valley by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W., CALGARY. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
