Florence Buck

Obituary of Florence Buck

It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Florence Buck (nee Witt), beloved wife of Maurice of Calgary, on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the age of 70 years. She died peacefully while taking a nap. Besides her loving husband Maurice, Florence will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cheryl, Wendy, and Kim and son-in-law Mark Giovanetto; her ever-faithful dog Sadie; as well as her sister, Marjorie; and her granddaughters, Fabiola Narvaez (Orin McIntyre) and Teesha Sylvester. Florence was predeceased by her sister Betty, her mother Constance and her father George. Florence was born in Verdun, QC and started working full-time for Sun Life at the age of fifteen to support her mother. She was always very proud of this job. Florence finished high school through correspondence and she worked as a bookkeeper for many years, often staying up until the early hours of the morning balancing her books to the penny. She married Maurice in 1958 and they moved from Verdun to Maniwaki, to Pointe Claire and, eventually to Calgary where they settled in 1968. Florence was an avid volunteer and she believed that her purpose was to serve. She was an active ACW member in the many churches she and Maurice were connected to, as well as a volunteer with Newcomers, NuGrads, Calalta Figure Skating Club, The Canadian Figure Skating Association, CUPS, the Anglican Diocese of Calgary, Flowers of Hope, the Heart and Stroke Fund, and providing Christmas hampers for those in need. She was always rounding up volunteers for her causes. Florence was an amazing woman. She was a very kind, generous and loving person. She was sharp, forthright and full of compassion. Florence loved gardening, long phone chats with her friends, helping anyone in need, and spending time with her family. She had a passion for collecting snowman decorations, beanie babies, stamps and coins. Florence suffered her first series of heart attacks twenty years ago this month, and she faced her health challenges with determination and courage. After the car accident in 2001, every day was a struggle. She was always in pain, yet never complained. Life over the last three and a half years was very hard for her. Although her mobility was greatly reduced, this didn’t squelch her desire to help others. She gave until the end. She was a hero to many and she has left a big void. We love you and miss you Florence. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church (903 – 75th Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. R.H. Grant Rodgers and the Rev. Michael Stonhouse officiating. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
