Obituary of Aron Shapiro

Aron (Archie) Shapiro passed away on January 1, 2005 at the age of 90 years. He died as he lived, peacefully and with dignity, surrounded by the love and respect that he earned and returned. Arch lived his entire life in Calgary, with the exception of several years in the Maritimes while in the Navy, and he was a proud Calgarian. A tireless volunteer, he took particular pride in his role in establishing the annual Interfaith Food Bank Drive within the Jewish community. He will be remembered for his love of children, football, Israel, and the Jewish community. He is remembered with love by his wife of sixty-five years, Charna; his children Danny and Judy; his son in law and daughter in law, Richard and Frieda; and the lights of his life – his grandchildren Noa, Jesse, Rebecca, and Talia. He was predeceased by his parents Fanny and Benny Shapiro and is survived by his brother Alec. The family would like to thank Arch’s dedicated caregivers, Cornie, Donia, Konstantin, Mavis and Sudesh, for showing him the love of a family member, and to all the caregivers and nurses of The Beverly Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined. Funeral services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1702 – 17th Ave. SW on Monday, January 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.). Arrangements in care of the CHEVRA KADISHA OF CALGARY, 1702 – 17th AVENUE S.W. TELEPHONE: 244-4717.
