Obituary of Little Chief

LITTLE CHIEF – Philip (Aaso’koyoh Kitopi) 1929- 2004 Philip Little Chief was born on November 11, 1929 at the Siksika Nation. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at the age of 75 years. Philip is the grandson of Eagle Ribs, signatory to the Blackfoot Treaty of 1877. As a member of the Blackfoot A1 Club, Philip performed at the Spokane and Montreal Worlds Fairs, Germany, and other world class events. He was very active in the community with friends and relatives. At the end, Philip was cared for by Floyd, Joan and Elaine Spring Chief. All who knew Philip will remember his kindness, generosity, jokes, story-telling, and above all maintained spiritual and Blackfoot knowledge. Philip will be remembered by his sisters, Clarissa, Annie, Christine (Ovide), and Donna; brothers, Roy (Linda), George (Racheal), and Leonard (Nadine); nephew Allan J. Wolfleg; and many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, brother-in-law Mark Wolfleg Sr; and best buddies and in-laws, Jasper Many Heads Sr., Bruce Star Light, Percy Yellow Fly, Peter Cayenne, Cecil Crowfoot, Timmy Breaker, Allan Medicine Traveller, and other friends. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Jane (Eagle Ribs) Little Chief; sisters Noella, Mary Margaret, Elizabeth, Eunice, Edna, and Florence; and brother Thomas; aunts Katy Buffalo, Annie Yellow Old Woman, Rosie Ayoungman, Mary Heavy Shield; and uncle Teddy Yellow Fly. Philip is mourned by the original and subsequent members of the Blackfoot A1 Club drummers and dancers. They were organized by George Crow Chief, Joe Cat Face and Club grandfather, Simon Wolfleg. Wake Services will be held at Sister Celine Memorial Parish Hall (Siksika Nation, AB) on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
