Obituary of Fernando Enriques Ricafort

Fernando E. Ricafort, beloved husband of Lydia Ricafort of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2004 at the age of 82 years. Fernando earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines. During World War II, Fernando was a leader of the underground Guerilla movement, fighting against the Japanese in the Philippines. He joined the Philippine Army and later the United States Army. He took an active role as an infantryman in the battle for the liberation of Manila and was the sixth recipient of the Philippine Legion of Honor, the highest honor bestowed by the Philippine President upon one who has rendered extraordinary services to the Country. In 1971, Fernando immigrated with his family to Canada to escape the Martial Law declared by the Dictator President Marcos. He retired as a Brigadier General Safety Officer for the Department of National Defense of Canada. A devoted and loving family man, he leaves behind Lydia, (his friend of seventy years and his loving wife of fifty-nine years.) He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Volney and Cris, Cynthia, Dorothy (Ronald, passed away in 2001), Mabel and Bernard, Fernando Jr., and Patricia and Wade. Fernando is also survived by his grandchildren Benjamin (M.J.), Rosanna, Kimberly, Michael, Christopher, Mark, Volney and Tavis; as well as his great-grandson Noah. He is also survived by his sister Maria David, and Catalina Hernandez.
