Obituary of Marie Ann Keller

Marie Ann Keller, beloved wife of George Keller of Calgary passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Friday, December 17, 2004 at the age of 84 years. Marie was born to Joseph and Stephanie Ruth on August 20, 1920 in Provost, AB. She grew up on a farm in the Rosenheim District near Provost. She completed her high school education at the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent in Wainwright, AB. On September 1, 1941, Marie married George Keller at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Rosenheim, AB. They farmed near Provost until 1950 when they moved to Castor, AB with the first of five of their eight children. While in Castor, three more children were born to Marie and George. In Castor, Marie made numerous friends as she devoted her time to her children, husband, church and community. In 1965, the family moved to Camrose, and Marie became similarly involved. Relocation occurred once more for Marie and George to Calgary in 1972. Marie was a long term member of the Catholic Women’s League for sixty-five years. Marie was an exceptional wife and mother. She was a phenomenal cook, housekeeper, seamstress, chauffeur, nurse, accountant, and counselor. Her home was always open to whoever needed love and care. Throughout her life, Marie taught her children kindness, love, generosity and patience. These traits, along with many lessons of example, have guided her children in their own happy, successful marriages and wonderful families. Marie is survived by her loving husband, George, and children, Don and Dianne of Maple Ridge, BC, Marlene and George Vilcsak of Sherwood Park, AB, Ken and Barbara of Calgary, Carole Ann and Orest Zaharia of Hinton, AB, Thomas and Grace of Drumheller, AB, Patricia and Larry Wasylik of Vermilion, AB, George and Kim of Calgary, and Armella and Charles Gulley of St. Albert, AB. She also leaves eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Marie leaves three sisters, Kay and Orville Bromling of Provost, AB, Adele Meyer of Duncan, BC, and Loretta and Ted Kampa of Kelowna, BC, and one brother Joe and Marilyn Ruth of Vancouver, BC, to mourn her passing along with numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers and both parents. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, December 20, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W.) on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev.
