Obituary of Anne Hommel

Anne Hommel, beloved wife of Bill Hommel of Calgary, passed away at the Sarcee Hospice on Monday, December 13, 2004, at the age of 81 years. Anne was born May 7, 1923 in Calgary. She spent her life here in Calgary except for two years during World War II when she served with the Women’s Division of the R.C.A.F. in London, England. Anne returned to Calgary in 1945 and started her career with Mobil Oil and the Ohio Oil Company. Anne and Bill met through their common love of skiing and married on December 13, 1958. Anne was an avid figure skater, skier, tennis player and hiker. She read keenly, cooked outstandingly, played bridge enthusiastically and loved to tend her bountiful petunias. Anne was a dedicated, perceptive and sensitive friend to many; her big heart and open mind will be missed, as will her ready offer to “come by and have a drink.” She worked hard for the Junior League of Calgary and was active as a lifetime member of the Glencoe Club. Besides her loving husband Bill, Anne is survived by her daughter Kady Hommel and son-in-law David Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO, and her son Paul Hommel and daughter-in-law Kara Coupland of Savona, BC. Anne is also survived by her grandchildren, Ben and Max Anderson, and Macy Hommel. Anne was predeceased by her parents Edward Wallace and Edith Wallace (nee Gardner), and her brother William (Bill) Wallace. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Thursday, December 16, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Roy Darcus officiating.
