Obituary of Clifford J. Watson
Clifford J. Watson, beloved husband of Gladys of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the AgapÚ Manor Hospice at the age of 88 years.
Cliff was born on January 4, 1916, at Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. He came to Canada at the age of three. Cliff started work in 1930 at the CPR’s Royal York Hotel. During World War II, he served with the Royal Canadian Medical Corp., then returned to his duties to later become Assistant Manager of the Royal York. He was transferred West to manage the Chateau Lake Louise Hotel in 1960, where he remained for three years, followed by seven years as General Manager of the Banff Springs Hotel. He retired from the Hotel business in 1971 and worked part time for several years at The Bay Market Mall in Calgary in Furniture Sales. Cliff and Gladys then moved to Victoria, BC where they would spend fourteen years, before moving back to Calgary in 1993. Cliff will be missed by family and friends who will fondly remember so many good times.
Besides his loving and devoted wife of sixty-eight years, Gladys, he is survived by his son Kenneth and his wife Elizabeth; granddaughters, Laurice and her husband Ken Kuresh of Calgary, and Sonja and her husband John Harvey of Belleville, ON; five great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Madison Kuresh, Morgan, Kennedy and Quinn Harvey; and his brother Ken and his wife Beth Watson of Toronto, ON. Clifford was predeceased by his parents and his brother Bill.
A Gathering to remember Clifford will be held in the reception room at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, December 6, 2004 at 1:30 pm.
