Obituary
Obituary of Alieen Gertrude Park
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gertie on Saturday, November 27, 2004 after a long and rich life of 91 years.
In her life Gertie shared a passion with Cliff – a love of their family. This love provided a foundation for her continued support and encouragement of the life pursuits of her children and grandchildren. In turn, she was clearly loved as a radiant light by her family and friends. Her life was founded on morals, education and hard work. In a time of much talk of ethics and values, she lived hers. Gertie arrived in Calgary from her home in Medicine Hat in 1950 with Cliff and her young family. She participated in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities as a knowledgeable enthusiast. She enjoyed sports throughout her life and remained active in her Aquasize classes until her eighty sixth year. Gertie was a long time member of The United Church of Canada and a member of the Eastern Star. One of her greatest joys lay in a brief career in the women’s fashion industry in Calgary. Gertie was a dependable and delightful friend and mother. On reflection her life had a surprising reach. She was always ready to lend a hand of unconditional assistance and emotional solace. No family had a kinder friend. She will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the Carewest Sarcee Nursing Home for the thoughtful care provided to her during the last three years.
Gertie is survived by and lovingly remembered by her four children, Sandy (Pam), Terry, Rick (Heather) and Peggy Lyon (Bruce); her ten grandchildren, Brad (Brandy), Stephen (Leanne), Doug, Suzanne, Scott Lyon, Robert Lyon, James Lyon, Carolyn Lyon, Steven Waters (Joceylyn) and Michelle Mickleborough (Andrew). Recently, Gertie was blessed with arrival of two great-grandchildren, Brady Park and Emma Mickleborough. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Joyce McArthur and Lillian McArthur as well as many nieces and nephews. Gertie was predeceased by Cliff, her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, in 1997, her grandson, Matthew Lyon and by her five brothers, Jim, George, Gordon, Maurice and Malcolm.
