Denis Dyck

Obituary of Denis Wallace Dyck

Sadly, we announce the passing of our kind, generous, loving, husband, father and friend, Denis Wallace Dyck. He passed away as the sun was rising on November 29, 2004 at the Foothills Medical Centre. Denis had a strong will and battled his heart condition with determination for 31 years. Denis was born on the family farm in Laird, SK on February 13, 1932. He was the prominent founder of Dyck Insurance, an independent insurance brokerage since 1962. His business was his pride and joy. Denis was a determined man who always persevered. He was very grateful to his first client and to the many valued clients his company continues to service today. He was an entrepreneur who loved the challenge and adventure of trying something new and was not afraid to take a risk. He said to many that “you can do whatever you want if you are willing to work hard.” Previously, he spent some time with London Life Insurance and the RCMP and has since been involved with the RCMP veterans association. Always a community man, he was involved with many other organizations. He coached and sponsored ladies softball, baseball, hockey, ringette and supported and cheered on his grandchildren in all of their various activities. Denis was a long time season ticket holder of both the Stampeder Football Club (since the Mewata Stadium days) and the Calgary Flames. He loved to gather with family and friends and was a strong man with great integrity. Denis also had a love of travel and adventure and could be at one moment heading out to the farm, and the next to the Great Wall of China. His greatest love was his family and one of his last adventures was a family vacation in September of 2004. He worked hard at whatever project was at hand. Denis had a passion for renovating, the last of which was nearly completed at the time of his passing. Besides his loving wife and partner of fifty years Marilyn, he is survived by his children and their spouses, his daughter Deborah and her husband Warren, his son Kevin and his wife Sandra, his daughter Dianne and her husband Desmond, and his son Dennis and his wife Tanya. Denis is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, Matthew, Laird, Jimmy, Desirae, Lynden, Aldene, Kirstin, Natalie, Porshia, Toshiro and Robson as well as his three sisters, five brothers, their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family. Denis was predeceased by his three brothers, one sister and his parents John and Helena.
