Obituary of Dorothy Beck

Dorothy Beck (nee Webb) of Calgary passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2004 in her 90th year. Dorothy was born on December 3, 1914 in Calgary and attended McDougall School and Central Collegiate Institute. Dorothy taught music after earning Honours certificates in Advanced Piano from the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music in London, England (LRSM). She loved music and spent countless hours playing the piano both for her own enjoyment and for the pleasure of others. In the 1950’s and 1960’s she was the official Chaperone for several Stampede Queens and Princesses and attended all their public appearances. Dorothy was much loved and will be sorely missed by her daughter Joan, her son and daughter-in-law David and Marilyn; her granddaughters Stephanie and her husband JosÚ Candanedo of MontrÚal, QC, and Victoria and her husband John List of Bicester, England; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Len and Pearl Webb, Jim Webb of Victoria, BC, and Doug and Billie Webb of Cambridge, ON; her sisters-in-law Evelyn, Harriet, and Doreen Webb, and Elizabeth Busby of Winnipeg, MB; many dear nieces, and nephews; and special family friend, Jim Charleston; as well as her good friends and neighbors. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband David Beck in 1966; her brothers, Alf, John, Norm and C.T. (Bill) Webb; and sisters-in-law, Edith and Barbara Webb. Funeral Services will be held at St. Philip the Evangelist Anglican Church (629 – 49th Avenue S.W.) on Monday, November 29, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Birch officiating.
