Obituary of Jolßn Vilma Szojka
Jolßn Vilma Szojka of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore on Friday, October 29, 2004 at the age of 100 years.
She was born in Nagysz÷ll÷s, Hungary, the youngest of five children. Jolßn studied music in Kolozsvßr, becoming a gifted pianist. Her talents made her the life of many a party, and made music fun to learn for all of her grateful piano students. In 1930 she married her husband Ferenc, a Civil Engineer. They immigrated to Canada in 1949 with their two sons, Frank and L_rßnd. The family settled in Calgary, where Jolßn enjoyed helping out in the Hungarian community by organizing plays, concerts, and recitals for both the Presbyterian and Catholic Communities. Predeceased by her husband in 1962, she bravely faced life alone for the next forty-two years, devoting her time to her ten loving grandchildren, and later her fifteen great grandchildren. She was strong-willed and fun-loving, making light of life’s hardships, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her sons Frank (Chrissy) and L_rßnd (Adrienne) wish to thank the staff and caregivers of both the Extendicare/Scottish and Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore for the excellent care given to Jolßn in the last four years.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to give tributes may do so directly to the Calgary Hungarian Scouts, c/o 12 Woodacres Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2W 4V9.
