Obituary of Francis William Fitzpatrick

Francis William (Bill) Fitzpatrick of Calgary passed away at home on Saturday, October 30, 2004 with his wife Helen and son Michael by his side. Bill was born in Calgary and was schooled at Holy Angels and St. Mary’s. A fine athlete, he excelled at both hockey and football where he successfully competed at high school and at University. He accepted a Hockey Scholarship at Colorado College, completed a Bachelor of Commerce at University of Alberta and was awarded an MBA at University of Western Ontario. Bill’s career took his family to MontrÚal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. He enjoyed positions at Chemcell, McMillan Bloedel, Canada Iron Foundries, and as President and CEO of Bralorne Resources. He retired in 1988 and spent several years perfecting his golf game at the Calgary Golf and Country Club and Camelback in Arizona. Helen and Bill also traveled extensively around the world. Bill was an active member of the volunteer community in Calgary serving on a variety of boards including Chairman of the Children’s Hospital for four years. He was an avid reader and supporter of the Arts. Bill was accomplished, talented, wise, and witty, and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen of forty-seven years; his son John and daughter-in-law Jennifer; grandchildren, Scott and Sally; his son Michael; his sisters, Joan Lee and Anne Summers; his brothers, Gerry Fitzpatrick and John Byrne; and his extended family and many friends who will miss his company. Bill fought courageously against brain cancer. The family wishes to thank all those doctors, nurses and support staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the Foothills Medical Centre and the AgapÚ Hospice.
