Obituary of Roman Gargula

Roman Gargula of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 29, 2004 at the age of 81 years. He was born on July 18, 1923 in Stary Sacz, Poland a sibling to seven sisters and three half brothers. His late teens were spent working as a Forester until May 25, 1943 when he was captured by the Nazis. As a POW he was transferred to various concentration camps, Sachenhausen being the last before liberation on May 1945. Post World War II led to a brief career as a clerk aiding displaced persons of the war camps to obtain documentation for immigration. He too chose immigration May, 1948 to Canada where he began an extended career at CP Rail, retiring as a Section Foreman at Dalemead, AB August 1988. Family life began August, 1961 after marrying Marianne Klak (predeceased). Roman is survived by his children Ann and Christine Gargula; son-in-law Warren Flaman; and cherished granddaughter, Justine. He is also survived by numerous relatives both in Canada and Poland. We will miss his weather predicting abilities, gardening expertise and seasoned cooking.
