George Omelusik

Obituary of George Thomas Omelusik

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Omelusik on Monday, October 25, 2004. After defying the odds year after year with both diabetes and heart disease the Lord called George home peacefully in his sleep. He lived each day that he was given to the fullest and was always looking for ways to help others with a smile on his face and love in his heart. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-two years Jean Omelusik; and their children, Kathryn, Ron and his wife Debbie, Jerry and his wife Catherine, and Joan and her husband Pete. George was dearly loved by his grandchildren, Amber, Mark, Matt, Chris, Shaylene, Amanda, Andrew, Johnathon, Anna, Justin, Robbie, Jess, and Mike. He leaves behind one brother Fred, his wife Bertha and one sister Rose as well as many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Anna, his sisters Catherine and Edna and his brother John. Born in a log cabin in Hillcrest on October 10, 1928 George endured all sorts of challenges and hardships as he grew up in the Crowsnest Pass and then in Cowley. His family, like many others, struggled through the Depression, worked in the mines and farmed on land that was sometimes less than hospitable. Throughout it all he emerged with a warm heart, a sense of humour and a true cowboy spirit. He was a symbol of strength, courage, honesty and integrity to all who knew him. George’s family invites you to join us in a Celebration of his Life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
