Obituary of H.R. Harse

Dr. H. R. (Reg) Harse died peacefully at his home in Calgary on October 14, 2004. His wife Crys and daughter Katie were by his side. Born in 1929, Reg was a lifelong and proud Calgarian. He cherished the memory of his father H. G. Harse, his mother Violet and his sister Dorothy Seward who predeceased him. He was deeply attached to his surviving sister Betty Dinkel; nieces, Karen Forestel, Debbie Dinkel, Pam Herbert, and Janet Loschuk; as well as his nephew Michael Dinkel. Reg graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Science and Medicine and began his long association with the Calgary General Hospital as an intern in 1954. He retired as Chief of Surgery of the General in 1997. He is remembered with respect and affection by his former colleagues, students and patients. He was an extraordinary listener, a gracious host, a kind, and loving man with a deep, private faith. “Horses and music,” he often said, “prove the existence of God.” He will be deeply missed by a lifetime of friends. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
