Obituary of Roy Alexander Valentine

It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Alexander Valentine on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Foothills Medical Centre, after a short illness. He is survived by his daughter Lynne, son Dennis and daughter-in-law Carol, all of Calgary; his sister Margaret Fader of Regina; grandchildren, Stacy, Lori, Robert, Traci, Scott, and Brendan; great-grandson Braedon; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-five years Dora, sisters Gladys and Ina, and brothers Kenneth and Gordon. Roy was born on the family farm near Pennant, Saskatchewan on July 3, 1923. After serving his country in the RCAF during WW II, he worked for seven years as a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. In 1953, he became a salesman for The Independent Biscuit Company in Edmonton, beginning a long career in the biscuit and confectionery industry. For the next 35 years, Roy worked his way through the company and its successors in sales and management positions that would relocate him to Calgary, Edmonton , Vancouver, and eventually Winnipeg. In 1988, he and Dora retired to Calgary to be closer to their family. Wherever they lived and travelled, Roy and Dora formed life-long friendships. Roy was a tireless volunteer worker whose efforts benefited many, especially through his work with Lions International and the OddFellows/Rebekahs. A sports fan who loved to golf, he will always be remembered as a “truly great guy” by all those whose lives he touched.
