Obituary of Timothy Ross
The family announces with great sadness the sudden death of Tim Ross, a.k.a. “Shade”, Director of YMCA Camp Chief Hector. Tim died in a tragic climbing accident on Ben Cruachan in Scotland.
Tim will be sorely missed by Laura Hamilton, his love and soulmate of London, ON; his sister and best friend Shann of Calgary; and his loving parents Lee and Michael of Kelowna; his uncles, aunts and cousins, Gerry, Sandy, Keri and Ryan Molyneaux of Ottawa and Peter, Carolyn, Tracy and Lindsey Ross of Oakville and his dear Granny in Montreal.
Tim graduated from the University of Calgary in Education but his passion was to mould the future leaders of Canada in the outdoor environment which he so loved. He pursued this through the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre in Kananakis passing on his love of the environment to Calgary high school students. He worked at Kilcoo Camp in Ontario in a Senior Program role and will always be remembered as one of the most ‘colourful’ guys that have ever come through the gates. He returned to YMCA Camp Chief Hector in Seebee, AB where he became the Chief Camper and continued to spread his passion and enthusiasm to the staff and campers.
Tim lived life to the fullest every day by giving so much of himself to others. He enjoyed a great sense of humour and he had a deep compassion for his fellow workers, campers and friends. He willingly gave so much to so many, demanding nothing in return except that one should strive to be all that they could be. Tim was truly one of “the good guys”. He taught us all about how to live, teach and take advantage of every minute and person that came his way. We are all better for knowing Tim and will continue to celebrate his life by living life to the fullest everyday.
Tim would want to be remembered by helping campers who do not have the means to attend camp so, donations to either camper fund, the YMCA Strong Kids campaign c/o Rocky Mountain YMCA, 101 – 3rd Street S.W., Calgary, AB, T2P 4G6 or to the AMICI Camping Charity c/o Kilcoo Camp, #204, 150 Eglington Avenue East, Toronto, ON, M4P 1E8 www.kilcoo.com, in lieu of flowers will be his legacy.
A Celebration of Tim’s Life will be held at First Alliance Church (1201 Glenmore Trail S.W.) on Friday, October 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A Celebration will also be held in Toronto at Greenwood College School, 443 Mt. Pleasant Road on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
