Roy Jerrard

Obituary of Roy Wilfred Jerrard

After a brief illness Roy Jerrard, beloved husband of Raye Jerrard of Calgary, completed his life’s journey surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at the age of 73 years. Born in Somerset, England in 1931, Roy served in the British Fleet Air Arm until he and Raye immigrated to Canada in 1957. He spent his business career as a designer with Domtar Packaging, first in Toronto and then from 1965 in Calgary. Retiring in 1996 he and Raye loved spending their days together. They met each day with a smile and a readiness to help wherever they were needed. They enjoyed their numerous extended holidays to England to visit with friends and family and trips to BC to visit with friends who had become “family” over time. Roy was an artist, an adventurer, and a fisherman. He was a husband, lover and companion, a father, grandfather, and a dear friend who will be forever loved. Roy leaves, with a directive to “love, laugh and remember” his darling of fifty-three years, Raye; his beloved daughters, Shauna Ryan and Lisa Birnie; their partners and his “sons”, Murray Ryan and Brian Birnie; his cherished granddaughters, Kelly Ryan and Jessie Robertson; and Brian’s daughters, Chelsea and Lorin. Roy was predeceased by his parents Florence and Maurice Jerrard; and sister Betty Brailey. He will also be lovingly remembered by family in England including “brother” Sid Brailey; nieces Lynne and Anne; and nephew Steve, along with their families. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, October 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
