Obituary of Tilly Houston
Tilly passed away as graciously as she lived on September 24, 2004 with her family by her side at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 61.
Tilly was born in Oliver, BC on October 31, 1942 to a pioneering family in the orchard business. Tilly graduated from Southern Okanagan High School and continued her education at the University of Victoria. After completion, she moved to Calgary where she met and married her husband Bill. Throughout their thirty-seven years of marriage, they enjoyed bowling, curling and skiing together. As their sons grew up, Tilly and Bill were actively involved in their education and especially in their athletics. Tilly worked at Telus for many years and retired in 2002. At home, she enjoyed cooking traditional Hungarian dishes, sewing and crafts. Her love of music started at a young age; she played the piano and sang in various school, university and church choirs. Tilly attended and enjoyed the CPO and operas. She also loved attending services at the Centre Street Church. Despite her year long struggle with cancer, Tilly remained bright, cheerful, and optimistic; and always maintained her sense of humor. She will be lovingly, but sadly missed by family and many friends.
Tilly is survived by her husband Bill; sons, Blair and Trevor; sisters, Margaret (Eddy) Pondelicek and Irene Battison; sister-in-law Carol (Allan) Rife; brothers-in-laws, Bob (Pat) and Frank Houston as well as many nieces and nephews.
