Obituary of Domingo Barcala Gibas

Domingo Barcala Gibas, beloved husband of Eulogia Pelegrina Gibas of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the age of 77 years. Domingo was born on December 20, 1926 in Los Ba±os, Laguna, Philippines. Following his graduation from High School, he worked as a Supervisor at the Physical Plant Division at the University of the Philippines. Domingo was also a First Lieutenant with the Filipino-American Troops. His proudest moment was achieving thirty-five years of service at the University of the Philippines. After immigrating to Canada in December 1991, he performed volunteer work in the local community with both the Kerby Centre and The Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree). He had many passions, some of which were band music, crossword puzzles, reading, bowling and baseball. Doming was known for his love of Chinese food and John Wayne movies. Doming is survived by his loving wife Eulogia Gibas; and his children Editha, Mercedes, Rodolfo, Nenita, Iraida, and Zenaida; sons-in-law Orlando Malabug; Rizaldy Tisalona, and Jayvee Valdestamon, daughter-in-law Connie Gibas; his grandchildren, Aileen, Sheryl, Ito, Nia, Kathleen, Karla, Kathyrn Joyce, Hershey Lyn, and his three great-grandchildren, Valen, Charie and Chloe. He will also be sadly missed by his brother Sofronio Gibas; and his sister Anita Gibas Tamban; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Philippines. Doming was predeceased by his daughter Nelia Gibas; his sister Eliza Gibas Revillezaa; his brother Cayetano Gibas and son-in-law Arcadio Bicomong. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Dielissen, Presider.
