Obituary of Elizabeth McGann

Elizabeth McGann, beloved wife of the late Frank McGann of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, September 10, 2004 at the age of 83 years. Betty was born in Dowlais, Wales on April 2, 1921. She met Frank when she was teaching in Manchester, England. They were married in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in 1953 and emigrated to Canada. Betty loved poetry, prayer, reading, walking, camping, theology, politics, baking, crossword puzzles, all her family and many friends. She was a loving and dedicated teacher who taught elementary school and adult education for many years in Manchester and Toronto, ON. She and Frank retired to Calgary in 1990 to be full-time grandparents. Betty is survived by three daughters and a son, Mary Elizabeth Lauzon (Bob), Michael McGann (Hope Johnson), Eileen McGann (David Knutson), and Patricia McGann; twelve grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer (Steve), David, Patrick, Mary Anne, Katy, Joshua, Simon, Rhiannon, Daniel (Rae-Ashlyn), Raven (Owen) and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Trian. She is also survived by her sister Eileen McAleer; brother Reverend Michael Bourne; brother-in-law Seamus Flanagan (Alo); two sisters-in-law, Mary Conley and Anne Redmond as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Inocencio C. Cambaling, Presider. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Section.
