Arlene Swystun

Obituary of Arlene Ruth Swystun

Arlene Swystun of Calgary passed away with a fighting spirit at the Agape Hospice on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the age of 55 years. Arlene developed her career through the Crown Prosecutor’s Office and dedicated her career to bridging the gap with community agencies, such as the Victim’s Assistant Unit and HomeFront, and educating the public to the Justice System. Arlene was well known as a natural mentor and leader, she always knew what to say and when to say it. She was the proud recipient of the Jerry P. Selinger Award in 2003 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Domestic Violence Prevention. She also graduated from Calgary Citizen’s Police Academy in 2003. In 2004 Arlene began working towards her Conflict Resolution Certificate. One of Arlene’s life goals was to make a difference in people’s lives. When she fell ill it became very apparent how deeply she had and will continue to effect the people she loved and cared for. She was profoundly touched and felt truly blessed for the daily miracles she had in her life, through her family, friends and co-workers. She realized that she had made a difference. In her own words, no goodbyes, only “until we meet again”. Our mother and friend will be sadly missed by Brenda McManus of Calgary; Cyndi (Danny) Padoan of Winnipeg; and Susanne (Kyle) Redfern of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Ryan (14) and Massimo (9 months); and an endless circle of friends. She is also survived by her brothers Jim (Grace) Shepherd and Tom Shepherd. Arlene was predeceased by her soul mate Stan (Stosh) Swystun; her parents Gerald and Luella Shepherd.
