Flora Hunter

Obituary of Flora Hunter

It is with great sadness the Creator peacefully called home his beloved Angel, Flora (Ena) Hunter on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Canmore Hospital at the age of 96 years. Ena was proud to be a grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother to, fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and seven Great-great-grandchildren. Ena grew up and resided on the Stoney Reserve most of her life except the last three years at the Golden Eagle Long Term Care in Canmore, AB. She took pride in her traditional culture through beadwork and crafts and was well known throughout the USA and Canada for her sweetgrass necklaces. She accomplished her life by raising her children as a single parent being both mother and father by teaching them the traditional values and beliefs of the native way. Ena always greeted everyone with a smile and handshake and was not one to be judgmental. Ena will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Margaret, Jeff (Evelyn), Brenda and Barbara; her traditionally adopted children, Gwen Rider, Clara Rollinmud, Clara Snow, Lavina Brown Raymona Wildman, Sheila (George) Labelle, Eddie (Elsie) Holloway, Horace Holloway, Florence Tymen, May Big Crow, Sykes (Wanita) Powderface, Jess (Winnifred) Beaver, Dallen (Mary Jane) Beaver and Christine Dixon. She will also be missed by her brother, John (Nora) Stevens; a sister-in-law Flora Rabbit; two special great grandsons, Braden and Tason; and a special great granddaughter, Shaylayne. Ena is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews; as well as the Bearspaw, Rider, Kaquitts, Simeon, Powderface, Rabbit, Twoyoungmen, Poucette and Holloway families. She has so many families that the family would like to apologize if they missed anyone and this is not intentional. Wake services will be held at the Residence of Barbara Hunter in Morley, AB on Sunday, September 5, 2004 and Monday, September 6, 2004. Funeral Services will be held at the Morley United Church on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A Graveside Service will follow at the Wesley Cemetery, Morley, AB. The family would like to thank Dr. Bryson and the staff at the Golden Eagle Long Term Care in Canmore, AB.
