Marcel Forcier

Obituary of Marcel Forcier

On September 1, 2004, at age sixty-six, Marcel passed away peacefully, at home as he had wished, after a brave and dignified battle with devastatingly rapid cancer. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-three years, Yolande Fauchon, his son, Roger (Marie-Christine), his daughter, Suzanne Matusik (Milan), his two grandsons, Shane and Brent Matusik who were the light of his life and for whom he was their beloved “Gramps”, and his eldest sister, Jeanne Emelyanov. He will also be fondly remembered by his many brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Germaine Forcier, and two other sisters, Yvette and Rita. Born on February 3, 1938, in Gravelbourg, SK, he left his home town at the age of twenty-one to pursue a career with Massey-Ferguson, Massey Combines, and ultimately Agricredit Canada, until his retirement in 2003. He was called upon to relocate and travel widely throughout Canada and parts of the U.S.A., and home was successively Racine, Wis., Toronto, Quebec City, Edmonton and Montreal before a career move returned him to his Western roots in 1983, and Calgary has been home ever since. A gentle, kind, discreet and compassionate man, he touched all who knew him and will be missed by his many friends and former colleagues both in Canada and in the U.S. He was an avid sports fan and indulged his passion for golf at every opportunity. He loved nature and the countryside and never ceased to marvel at the incredible and varied beauty he found everywhere in Canada. His eclectic tastes in, and love of music sustained and comforted him throughout his final painful days, during which his consideration for others and his gentle sense of humor remained constant. He leaves a terrible void in the lives of all who loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Monday, September 6, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers it was Marcel’s wish that memorial donations be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: (403) 944-2433.
