Obituary of Irwin Carlton Hunte

Irwin Carlton Hunte (Doc), beloved husband of Mrs. Agnes Anita of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 27, 2004 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 59 years. Born and raised in Trinidad, Irwin came to Canada in 1969 to further his education obtaining both his B. Comm. (Finance) from the University of Alberta, as well as his Engineering tickets. In 1970, he married his best friend and longtime love Agnes Taylor and together they raised three children; Arlene, Lisa and Bradley, and welcomed daughter-in-law Avian to the family in 2004, all of whom he dearly loved. Irwin’s passion for steel drum music allowed him to fuse the culture he loved to the place he called home. Besides his loving wife, Irwin is also survived by his brother Sterling (Jean); in-laws, Rose Taylor, Rosemary (Rawle) Alexander, Elizabeth (George) Osborne, Mary (Peter) Ramdin, Myrna Taylor, Robert (Deborah) Taylor and Jeffrey (Patsy) Taylor; half-siblings, Roger Dennie, and Anndeloris Chacon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Carlton and Sylvia Hunte. As a highly respected member of the Caribbean community, Irwin will forever be remembered as a people-person who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. A special thank-you to nurses Elaine Mathieu, Shari Ball and Lana Tomiyama and the rest of the Home Care Team for their outstanding care and support, as well as Dr. Matt Van Olm, Dr. Jeanette Soriano and Dr. Ian Donnelly.
