Obituary of Alcides Riccetto

Dr. Alcides Riccetto, beloved husband of Blanca, of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Tuesday, August 24, 2004, after a brave battle with cancer, at the age of 78 years. Alcides was born on June 10, 1926 in Aigua, Maldonado, Uruguay. He received his doctorate of medicine in 1955 and briefly practiced in Uruguay. On August 18, 1956 Alcides married Blanca Cap_, they raised three children, Anabella, Eduardo and Sylvia. They moved to Mexico City where he received his title in cardiology, returning to Uruguay to practice medicine for another four years. After this, they relocated to Philadelphia, PA where Alcides did research in cardiology for five years, later moving to Saskatoon, SK to teach cardiology at the University of Saskatchewan. After teaching, Alcides practiced family medicine for over three years in Grande Prairie, AB and then went to Edmonton for two years to become a specialist in internal medicine. For twenty-eight years he practiced as an Internist, primarily in relation to cardiology, in Regina, SK. Alcides was an avid reader of history, economics, social and physical sciences, philosophy, politics and literature. He enjoyed live theater, opera, symphony and many other art forms. Alcides loved soccer and traveling to archeologically/historically significant places. Family was very important to him and he remembered family life with pictures, movies, and videos. Alcides embraced the Catholic faith in 1976 when he remarried his wife. Besides his loving wife Blanca of forty-eight years, Alcides is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Anabella Riccetto and Brent Golding, and Sylvia and Filipe Mendes; one son and daughter-in-law, Eduardo and Roxanne Riccetto; as well as three grandchildren, Eduardo Jr., Michelle and Christopher. Alcides is also survived by many relatives in Uruguay, Argentina and the USA. He was predeceased by his parents, brother and sister.
