Obituary of Wanda Agnes Suminski

Wanda Agnes Suminski (Oczkowski), beloved mother of Christine and Michael, passed away at the Cedars Villa Extendicare on Friday, August 20, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Wanda was born in Bellevue, AB on December 30, 1925 and spent the “dirty thirties” on a farm in Lundbreck, AB. She lived in Lundbreck until 1948 when she attended Garbutt Business College in Calgary. Soon after graduating she married Antoni Suminski and settled in Calgary in 1949. Wanda and her husband operated Apollo Travel Ltd. for eleven years, from 1970 to 1981. Her travels took her to a number of countries. Wanda was an avid gardener, loved homemaking, crafts and the outdoors. In the 1960’s she was a charter member and officer in the P.C.A. Savings and Credit Union. Wanda volunteered many years in the Polish Canadian Association, the Polish Combatants Association and the Queen of Peace Parish in numerous events as well as heartfelt service to others before she retired in 1983. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Christine; grandson, Troy; her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Annabelle; sister, Mary (Jack); and nieces. She will also be remembered by her three brothers, Charlie (Millie), Stanley (Jean) and Frank (Katherine); as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Antoni in 1981; a sister Anna and her parents. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W.) on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Inocencio C. Cambaling, Presider. A Private Family Graveside Service will follow in St. Joseph’s Section at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
