Obituary of Dorothy Barraclough

Dorothy Helen Barraclough, beloved wife, of Ray Barraclough of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the age of 83 years. Dorothy was born in Carstairs, AB at her grandparents home. She was raised on the family homestead in Bottrel, AB. Dorothy attended Westbrook Public School before going to Olds Agricultural College for two years. Dorothy lived in Calgary all of her adult life. She and Ray married on September 19, 1944 and lived in both Brier Hill and Arbour Lake. Dorothy spent a great deal of time volunteering for Breast Cancer and the Heart and Stroke Fund. She was a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and spent thirty-five years honing her craft as a painter. Dorothy’s sense of humor and smile could light up a room. This magnetic personality attracted new friends wherever she went. She was also a great lover of nature and all animals. Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty years; son, Wayne Barraclough (Marilyn) of Black Diamond, granddaughter Kim Barraclough (Anthony Perkins) of Calgary; sister, Marjorie Birchall (Claire) of Ft. St. John; sister-in-law Joan (Earl) Gray of Woodville, ON, brother-in-law Harold (Lil) Barraclough of Abbotsford as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother George and sister-in-law Dorothy Shand.
