Obituary of Ruth Evelyn Burk

Ruth Evelyn Burk of Calgary passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the age of 88 years. She was in the presence of friends and family at the time of passing. Ruth was born on September 6, 1915 in Burnside, Manitoba. The daughter of long time member of parliament, Harry Leader, and her mother, Ella MacBeth Leader, Ruth was admired and loved for her strict adherence to an independent lifestyle and for her constant need to learn and experience. She married her beloved Robert Ernest Burk in 1937 and during their fifty-three year marriage raised three children. In 1967, they moved from Portage la Prairie to Calgary where Ruth continued her life’s work as a school teacher and choral instructor. Generations of young men and women grew to appreciate music through her loving tutelage. Ruth maintained life long associations with Trinity United Church in Portage la Prairie and St. Andrews United Church in Calgary, but her extraordinary commitment to her family and especially her grandchildren shall never be forgotten. Ruth is survived by her two sons, Bob (Clare) and Tom (Patti), along with her three grandchildren, Kathleen (David), Sarah, and Alison. Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert Ernest and her daughter, Kathleen Ruth. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church (924 Heritage Drive S.W.)
