Obituary of John Stephen Curtis

Dr. John Curtis, beloved husband of Mary of Calgary, passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the Foothills Hospital on July 29, 2004 at the age of 81 years. John was born in Sokol, Czechoslovakia in 1923 before moving with his family to Estevan, SK at the age of seven. John served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1945 as a Wireless Operator and Technician. Thereafter, he obtained an Arts and Sciences degree from the University of British Columbia in 1948. He subsequently graduated from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1950. John practiced optometry in Edmonton before opening his own offices in High River and beginning in 1952, in Calgary where he practiced until 1992. John will be dearly missed by his wife Mary; his daughter Rosemary; his son Dean; his sisters Marie (Dennis) Hill-Tout of Calgary and Doris MacFarlan of Mt. Vernon, WA; his brother Andrew of Calgary; his cousin Milan (Agnes) Balog of Blairmore, and by his numerous nieces and nephews and their children. John was predeceased by his brother Donald.
