Obituary of Romeo John Cervi

Romeo (Rome) John Cervi of Calgary passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the age of 85 years. Romeo was born on March 5, 1919 in Prince Rupert, BC and spent his formative years in the Vancouver area. He served in war with the Royal Engineering Corps. during which time he met the love of his life, Rena, whom he was married to for fifty-eight years. Romeo began a long career in Construction Management, primarily in Calgary with Cana Construction (Burns & Dutton) where he was known as “Slim”. Slim left his mark on the Calgary landscape overseeing many major projects, including the original Chinook Centre, Court of Queens Bench, General and Holy Cross Hospitals, Round Up Centre and Big Horn Dam. He will be remembered for his colourful language, his demand for perfection in construction, his love for his family and his passion and exceptional talent for fine woodworking. Romeo is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Louise, and Darryl and Shelley; grandchildren, Kari (Kevin), Jennifer (Aaron), David, Matt (Alison), and Jill; as well as four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Betty Williams of San Francisco. Romeo was predeceased by his wife Rena in 2001; sons, Barrie in 1968 and Kirk in 1982; and a sister Mae Skelton.
