Obituary of Mary Rubin

Mary Rubin of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 just days after her 91 birthday. Mary was a lifetime member of Hadassah Wizo, ORT, N.C.H.W., and Women’s B’nai Brith of Ottawa, as well as a regular attendee on Shabbat at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue. She volunteered her services whenever needed and enjoyed her family and friendships all the days of her life. Her early career in the twenties and thirties, prior to marriage, was as a traveling Sales Agent and Fashion Model for a women’s garment manufacturer in Ontario. It was on one such journey that she met her wonderful “David”. Mary was a person of determination and strength, a woman of valour, and a spiritual believer. She had strength and was resourceful and full of life all of her days. She leaves to mourn and celebrate her life, her son Jeffrey Brian; her grandchildren, Noel and Moira Rubin of Vancouver; two brothers, Lawrence (Betty) and Jack (Shirley) Levy of Toronto; sister Goldie Nass of New York, sister-in-law Sadie Levy of Hamilton; and an extended family of many nieces and nephews in Ottawa, Toronto and Calgary. Mary was predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years, David Scott in 1986; her daughter Penny Fishman Rubin of Vancouver in 1988; and her daughter-in-law Katherine Mandin Rubin in 1999. Graveside Service will be held at the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.) on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 11:00 A.M.
