Obituary of Elgin McCutcheon

After a life well-lived, Elgin Fred McCutcheon went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the age of 93 years. Born in a sod house near Ardath, SK on November 26, 1910, Elgin attended Violet Hill School for four years and continued his education at the Ardath Consolidated School. Elgin remained in the Ardath community where he farmed and married the love of his life, Gwenyth Tunnicliffe of Saskatoon, SK. He ran a mixed farm, raising purebred Landrace hogs and Hereford cattle along with growing cereal grains. Elgin retired from the farm in 1967 and moved to Calgary where he was employed by McMahon Carpets for several years. Elgin then spent the next sixteen years working with his grandson Stan at Canyon Meadows Bakery. Elgin was an active member of Bethany Chapel since 1967, often driving other seniors to and from services. For the last one and a half years Elgin has resided at and has been cared for the by compassionate staff of the Bow View Manor Nursing Home. The family wishes to thank all nurses and staff for the kindness and affection shown to Dad during his time there. Elgin will be lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law Gordon and Patricia; a sister Mabel Petty; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville and Mary and Wilmer and Millie. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Stanley and his wife Heather McCutcheon, Brian McCutcheon and Janet Morris; ten great-grandchildren, Blair, Christopher, Tiffany, Ryan, Lance, Jessica, Stanley, Cynthia, Rebecca, and Pamela; and two great-great-grandchildren, Anna and Harley. Elgin was predeceased by his wife Gwenyth in 1985; a son Stanley in 1942; and a brother Harvey in 1992. A Celebration of Elgin’s Life will be held at First Alliance (1201 Glenmore Trail S.W.) on Monday, July 19, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Jim Elliott officiating.
