Obituary of Beryl Marguerite Humphreys
Beryl “Marguerite” Humphreys, beloved wife of John Humphreys of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the age of 71 years.
Marguerite was born on August 20, 1932 in London, England. During the war, she was evacuated from London to Carterton, Oxfordshire, England. She graduated from University College Hospital, London, School of Nursing in 1953 as a Nurse and a Midwife. Marguerite entered into a second career as a Speech Instructor at Mount Royal College. She was involved in amateur theatre, including the “Mouse Trap” and “The Sound of Music”. Marguerite proudly joined her husband in becoming a Canadian Citizen on April 11, 1984. She was active in the Christian community of Calgary as a member of Christian Community Church, Christ Church Anglican, St. Lawrence Anglican, and most recently, St. Martin’s Anglican Church, as well as being an associate of King’s Fold Retreat Centre in Cochrane, AB. She will be fondly remembered for her performance of “Julian”, a one woman play about Julian of Norwich, a fourteenth century English Mystic. Marguerite’s deep faith in a loving and ever-present God guided her life and empowered her kind, gracious and hospitable living.
Besides her loving husband John, Marguerite is remembered by a son, Nigel Humphreys of Medicine Hat, AB; a daughter and a son-in-law, Sarah and Jim Arthurs of Calgary; two grandchildren, Benjamin Arthurs and Hannah Arthurs; as well as a sister-in-law Joan Eustance of London, England.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Monday, July 12, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with the Venerable Dr. Richard LaSueur officiating.
