Obituary of Ronald Hilbert

It is with overwhelming sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, dad, grampa, brother, uncle, and friend. Ron passed away holding hands with his family in a circle of love to be with his God in whom he so believed. He leaves to mourn his wife and soul mate of 47 years Betty, his beloved children Lianne (Jim) Chilton, Jamie Hilbert, and Cate (Bruce) Wilkins, his grandson and shining star Connor, and his puppy Molly. We will always remember his big heart, his optimistic outlook on life, and the love he shared with us. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters Joey Romaine of Winfield, AB and Val Kell of Richmond, BC and their families, as well as a large extended family. Ron was a native Calgarian born at the General Hospital, growing up in Bridgeland where he attended St. Anne’s & St. Mary’s Boys School and enjoyed playing hockey with his buddies. He was a talented and respected General Contractor who started his own construction company, Rockyview Developments Ltd., with his son Jamie. Ron enjoyed his work immensely, and made many friends with his clients and the trades he worked with. One of his proudest achievements was the supervision of the construction of The Port ‘O’ Call Inn. He also loved to create special treasures for his family and friends –gifts made with love that we will always treasure. Ron was predeceased by his parents Frank and Lydia, his in-laws Walter and Natalie Wood, two brother-in-laws Bob Kell and Ed Romaine, and his nephew John Romaine. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with the Rev. Krystian Golisz SDS, Presider. A celebration of Ron’s life will follow at 2:30 P.M. at his home away from home The Port ‘O’ Call Inn (Strathmore Room, 1935 Mcknight Blvd. N.E.).
