Obituary of Alan Mark Shred

Alan Mark Shred passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 25, 2004 at the age of 83 years. Alan was born in London, England and came to Canada with his family in 1929. He served in the Canadian Army from 1940 to 1946 in England, France and Germany. His long career with Canada Post began in Winnipeg in 1948 and he retired as Calgary Postmaster in 1979. During retirement he enjoyed golf, poker, stamp collecting, and volunteering for the Calgary Olympics, the Kerby Centre, Meals on Wheels, and Revenue Canada. He will be missed enormously by his family: his wife of fifty-eight years, Gladys; daughters, Jeanne and Susan; son-in-law, Herb Martin; granddaughters, Claire and Jennifer; twin brother, Jack of Germany; and close relatives, Irene and Roy Slater of England. He was predeceased by his sisters, Alice, Marjorie and Kathleen and brother Eric. His family will remember Alan for his kindness, his sense of humour, and the twinkle of his blue eyes.
