Obituary of Rose Libin

Rose Libin of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Monday, June 21, 2004 at the age of 94 years. Rose was born in Russia and came to Calgary as a young woman in 1926, moving first to Strathmore and later to Calgary where she become very active in several Jewish women’s organizations most particularly Hadassah-WIZO. She was proud to be a Charter Member of the Shaarey Tzedec Synagogue and remained very active on several committees; her favourite being the Hadassah Bazaar which she proudly chaired. She was also a successful and savvy businesswoman owning and operating her own Ladie’s Wear shop and helping her husband in his various businesses. She showed great strength and determination and her friendships and family were most dear to her. Her passing is a great loss to her family, friends and community and she will be deeply missed. Rose was the beloved mother of two sons, Bernard and Gilbert (Mary). She is also survived by three grandchildren, Sean, Stephen and Miriam; and two step-grandchildren, Shelley (Myles) and Tracy (Mark). She was blessed with what she called her “true joys”, five great-grandchildren, Sam, Austin, Quinn, Reed, and Alexandra. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate of fifty-eight years Samuel and her son Bernard. Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel (1702 17 Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Interment to follow in the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.). If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Haddassah-WIZO.
