Obituary of Raw Eater

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie, and cousin went home to be with her Precious Friend, the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on the evening of Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the age of 70 years. She entered into the realms of glory. Right beside her were the Holy angels who were companions with her for many years. She lived life to the fullest. Cecilia had a tremendous influence and left a lasting legacy in the lives of those who knew her. She was instrumental in building peoples lives for the betterment, enhancing their lives also to be rich and fulfilling. Her life to the Lord, her Friend, was above reproach, never wavering, always faithful to her Lord. She was dedicated and committed and believed in the values of Christ. We are proud of her legacy because of that, and she taught many, young and old, never to be ashamed of Jesus Christ. She leaves behind the love of her youth and husband of fifty-four years, the Reverend Richard Raw Eater; her children, Elizabeth (Adrian) Big Old Man, Ricky, Naomi, Sarah (Wesley) Three Suns, Miriam, Rhoda (Perry), Sandra (Lawrence) Old Woman, Dwayne (Sharon) Big Old Man, Mary Ann Big Sorrel Horse, Roseanne Tail Feathers, Emil Yellow Horse, Betsy Anne, Tyrone, Vivian Yellow Old Woman, and Fay Yellow Old Woman; daughter-in-law, Sheila Raw Eater; traditionally adopted children, Vicky and Susan Caine of Winnipeg, Renee Bradley of Snohomish, WA, Larry (Melvina) Weasel Head, Casey (Marion) Three Suns, Glen Black Horse, Irwin (Brenda) Big Old Man, Stanley (Geraldine) Water Chief, Gwendora (Robert) Bear Chief, Dorothy and Gary North Peigan of Hardin, MT, Vince Black Hawk of Wyola, MT, Tommy Carpenter of Lodgegrass, MT, and Norbert Bear Chief. Cecilia is also survived by her brothers, Fred Yellow Old Woman, Edward Yellow Old Woman, Jr., Vincent (Vicki ) Yellow Old Woman, Roy Fox, Michael Fox, Thomas Vortman, and Alden Fox; a sister, Shirley Fox; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wilton (Donna) Raw Eater, Art Calling Last, Eve and Sylvia Yellow Old Woman; as well as her thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy and a source of delight each day to her. Cecilia will also be missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins of her extended family, the Yellow Old Womans, Winnipegs, Turning Robes, Stimsons, Brasses, Mayfields, Wolflegs, and Wolfears; and family friends, the Old Woman family, the Maguires, Black Horses, Bear Chiefs, Bear Medicines of Browning, MT, the Running Cranes of Browning, MT, the Naldretts of Kalispell, MT, the Lorentzens of Three Hills, AB, William Brooks of Wyoming, and the McMullens of Arizona. Cecilia was predeceasd by her parents, Edward and Besty Yellow Old Woman; her sisters, Annette, Christine, and Angelina; her brothers, Gordon, and Roger; her children, Johnathan, Eugene, and Rebecca; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Millie Raw Eater; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Cecilia Raw Eater, Violet Calling Last, Vernon Raw Eater, Doris and Conner Stimson; grandchildren, Craig Big Old Man, Olivia Calf Robe. We know we have missed many more of her friends and we sincerely apologize. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Dick Raw Eater (Siksika Nation, AB), on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at 6:00 P.M. and Monday, June 21, 2004. Funeral Services will be held Siksika Community Centre on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. Graveside Service to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery, Siksika, AB. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Valley General Hospital in Strathmore and also acknowledge these individuals for their constant support in the last few days of her life, those who dropped by, and the many phone calls. Thank you for your kind words and your prayers. A big thank you to Marilyn Bear Chief and Stella Turning Robe. Cecilia passed away due to complications from Diabetes. She made herself aware and knowledgeable about her illness. She wanted us to be aware of this dreaded illness that takes so many of our beloved Native peoples lives. Her prayer was that a cure would be found soon for Diabetes.
