Obituary of Lois Maxine Weir

Lois Maxine Weir passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Bowcrest Care Centre in Calgary, AB, on Sunday, June 13, 2004. She was 77 years old. Born in Lafleche, Saskatchewan on February 19, 1927, she was the youngest girl in the family. She and her brother Bill were inseparable. A busy mother, she generously volunteered her time and energy to various organizations. For many years, she worked for the Canadian Cancer Society, acting as Campaign Chairperson and Member of the Board. Lois always put other’s needs before her own – friends and family can attest to her gracious nature. She also had a keen sense of humour, often using laughter to take the edge off life and to celebrate the quirkiness of existence. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed. Lois is survived by one son and three daughters, Candace Weir (Barry Poffenroth) of Calgary, Lee Weir of Lethbridge, Janine Weir (Richard Dyck) of Calgary, and Erin Weir (Harry Pye) of Calmar, AB. She was blessed with five grandchildren; Stephen Poffenroth, Aidan Dyck, Connor Dyck, Ryan Pye, and Kimberley Pye. She is also survived by a sister and two brothers, Phyllis Roe of Quesnel, BC, Bill Beasley (Isabella) of St. Albert, AB, and Pat Beasley (Jean) of Peers, AB. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Weir and by a son, Kim Weir. An informal tea celebrating Lois’ Life will be held at Christensen-Salmon Funeral Home (327 – 10 Street South, Lethbridge, AB) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
